Increasing Manga Interest

November 22, 2008 at 12:18 pm under animelife, manga with 2 Comments

Lately, it seems that my interest in manga is increasing. I’m not entirely sure why this is occuring. It’s just that I’m starting to read more manga blogs, which is increasing my knowledge of manga. And I think I would like to take part of more manga. I also like to see what’s the difference of some manga to the anime. I’ve always had an interest in that but lately I’m interested in going beyond that. I wanna read manga that is not become an anime yet. I would like to try different types of manga - Different genres (including more mature manga), different types, i.e. light novels, monthly anthologies, etc. Well, I would at least like to try out more manga. I should at least get the first volume of series that seem interesting to me.

I need to start spending more money on manga and less on anime. I’m still gonna buy anime and probably more than manga but that’s because my manga interest is just starting. I just would like to add manga to my current anime hobby. I would just like to expand my interests. Become a more cultured person in the otaku/anime world.

Netflix: Augmentation to My Viewing Habits

September 30, 2008 at 6:21 pm under DVD, animelife with 6 Comments

During my “Summer Blog Break,” I discovered an additional way to watch anime: Netflix. I’ve learned that Netflix actually has a large selection of anime. More than I had initially thought. And just about every licensed series that I’ve want to see, Netflix has. I can myself using Netflix for a while.

So you may be asking yourself: “why pay money to rent it if you can download for free?” Well, several reasons: 1) I’m lazy, 2) less of a hassle to download, 3) I can see if the DVD is something I want to buy. Downloading is actually more of a pain in the butt for older series. Not as many seeders and it can take a while to download. Bittorrent really works best when its a more current series and of course it’s a popular series as well.

Anyways, I went with the popular 3 dvds out at a time for unlimited about of times. It’s costs less than $20 a month, which is not that expensive & good deal. It takes about a day or so to receive your dvds. Two days seems to be the typical amount of time it takes. When you add up the time that I send in a disc, to when they receive it, and when they send the next disc out to me, it is about two days. It’s really not that long but it does require some patience, which I’ve found to be better for me. Marathons really wear me out some times and not really the best way for me to watch anime.

(I’d like to point out that this has not totally replaced my downloading of anime. It is just a way for me to watch older licensed series.)

5000 Episodes Down, 5000 to Go

June 4, 2008 at 4:35 pm under animelife, personal with No Comments

I finally it the 5000 mark of number of anime episodes, today. The episode that hit the mark was Toshokan Sensou episode 8, an excellent series. I think this awesome. I have been watching anime for almost 10 years now. It seemed to pick up when I got into fansubs back in 2005. If you like to see how I achieved this mark you can look at my animelog to see how I keep track of my anime watching.

Missing on Getting a Great Series

May 23, 2008 at 5:59 pm under DVD, animelife, personal with 1 Comment

This basically sucks. I’m reading the weekly newsletter from RACS and it seems that I may just miss out on purchasing the last of the FLCL boxsets. Robert says that the 60 available boxsets that they had are almost sold out. They have like 10 left and will probably sell out this weekend. The problem is that Synch-Point, the company that released the series, will not be publishing it anymore. So basically once they have sold them all out that’s it. And here’s the kicker, I don’t have the money right now to buy it. End of next week, I will have the money but not this weekend. I really would liked to have the series in my collection. Damnit!

No one go on the site and buy it. Give me a week to buy it. Unless someone wants to buy it for me.

I wish they could save me one until next Friday when I have the money. Hey, Robert I’m a loyal customer and your business is my favorite anime retailer. It’s really the only place I like to buy my anime. Could you save me one? Guess not. I’m probably asking too much and it is not really fair to those who do have the money.

Edit: I looked at last weeks newsletter and here is what Robert said verbatim:

Snych-Point has assured me that this will be the final release of this series, and the last time any of the Deluxe boxed sets will be made available.

Preferred Anime Format: Series, OVAs or Movies?

March 24, 2007 at 10:35 pm under anime, animelife with 6 Comments

I just thought of this post out of the blue. I wanted to talk about what format of anime do I prefer. I like to watch all the different formats of anime but it seems that I tend to focus on one format over another. I was not totally conscious of this fact until I was going over the upcoming anime for the Spring season. I realized that I tend to disregard one format over others some times. One just seems more important to me. Anyways, I wanted to write a little something about each format in a list going from my least preferred to most preferred. You know “preferred” format may not be the correct word to use it’s more like the anime format I “focus” on. So without further ado:

Note: I’m not saying one is better than another. I love all formats of anime. This post is just a view of my regular anime viewing. And is written from a very general perspective.
