New Low for Adult Swim
September 20, 2007 at 8:13 pm under TVIt looks like Adult Swim will be showing Death Note on October 20th. I thought Adult Swim was redeeming itself by showing Cowboy Bebop again but I guess not. Of course, Adult Swim has been going down the crap shoot for a few years now. Honestly, I only use Adult Swim at night to help me go to sleep. I’m so glad that I don’t get my anime from TV anymore.
Now, I’d like to point how I can see why Adult Swim picked this show. It’s due to the fact that for some odd reason Death Note is very popular and this would only bring more viewers to Adult Swim. But I really don’t see it as all the great. There are a ton of other series they could have chosen from but I guess they will continue to pick crappy series.

They would have had to be idiots to not take on Death Note– it’s way too popular to pass up. And Adult Swim is not exactly known for demanding the most thoughtful and intelligent of series for its lineup anyway. Actually, Death Note is probably one of the MORE intelligent series that they show…
Though I agree that it’s overrated. It has excellent characters and an interesting setup, but I don’t think it ever delivers what it promised– instead of an honest-to-god debate about how to deal with good and evil, it just turns into a cat and mouse game with the author jacking off screaming “I AM SO MUCH MORE INTELLIGENT THAN YOUUUUUUU” at the audience.

@gia: Death Note is only an “more intelligent series” for Adult Swim to show because its popular, no other reason. Lord knows it’s not because it’s good.
Honestly, I never saw that it promised to be a debate about how to deal with good vs. evil. It’s just a show to glorify the acts of a sociopath, which is not something I care to see.

@Sabas: LOL. I imagine there are a few out there who do. Mainly, those who have not discovered fansubs yet or the casual anime viewer.

Actually, be glad that you can get something like Death Note on tv. The only anime that the dutch tv-station managed to get was the horrible Bedaman. -_-

Thank God, a person who doesn’t worship the crap out of Death Note on the interweb — I was starting to think they didn’t exist.
I’d much rather see Cowboy Bebop rerun 10 times than sit through death note again.

This comes off sounding like the cool kids on the internet hating on what’s popular. I can understand the feeling that if the unwashed masses like it it must be too low brow for our superior tastes, but come on. Kinda like how it was ok to like Naruto before the anime came out and everyone started wearing those stupid headbands and calling it cosplay. Seriously though, death note might not compare to cowboy bebop but it was pretty good. also, who cares about anime on adult swim?
