AnimeSeen – Nice Idea
April 13, 2007 at 5:22 pm under animeI don’t know how most of you keep track of your anime but I like to keep track of what anime series, OVA or movie I’ve seen. It also helps in figure out how many total episodes of anime you have seen as well, which I like to see.
I keep track of my anime in two ways:
- a spreadsheet file on this computer
- the animelog here on this blog
So why the hell do I do it this way? Well, the spreadsheet is more like a backup or a local copy that I can access if my animelog is not available or gets messed up. The animelog is there to let me glance at the anime I’ve seen from anywhere. I use it mainly when I’m too lazy to open up the spreadsheet. Also, the animelog is there to let other people see what I’ve seen as well.
Anyways, I was chatting with LK (aka lolikitsune) last nite. He was doing a little self-promotion of his most recent post, as usual. So as I was reading some of what he has posted lately, I noticed he has a little button on his site for something called AnimeSeen.
AnimeSeen is a clean, lightweight way to keep track of what anime you’ve seen. Also it seems that LK had a hand in helping the creator, Guru3, in getting it started. It allows you to keep track of the title seen, the type of anime, status, progress, rating and a few info links to that series/OVA/movie. Also there is a little stats thing on each person’s page that keeps track of items watched, currently watching and a few other details. Now, the cool thing that I find about AnimeSeen is that I can see what others have seen as well. I find it interesting to see what other anime viewers are watching or have given up on.
Now, I’ve got a nice setup for my anime tracking and I’m not sure if I’m gonna move it over. I may just start an account at AnimeSeen to add to my existing anime tracking. Not sure at this point. However I do encourage others to do so. If you want to keep track of your anime and you don’t yet have a method at this point, I would suggest you use AnimeSeen because it seems like a really good idea.

A long time ago I tried one of those dvd library things and it was just so time consuming I stopped. It is nice to keep track of these things, but I just never have the dedication completely fill it all out.

I’ve been watching anime for WAY too long and have seen many series in Japanese, Cantonese, and English dubs. There is just way too many for me to list and try to remember off the top of my head. Best way for me to remember is when I talk to one of my good anime friends and if they ask if I have watch said series, I can tell them if I have or not.

@super rats: It does take some time and dedication to keep track of your anime.

Dude, which are you promoting, AnimeSeen or me? Jesus, “LK” “LK” “LK” … :P
April 13th, 2007 at 9:01 pm
@lolikitsune: What you don’t like LK?
I was trying to promote AnimeSeen. I didn’t realize that I said your name so many times. I guess I should remove some of them.

I don’t care at all :D
April 13th, 2007 at 11:34 pm
Do you also keep track of how many times you’ve seen/re-watched something?
April 13th, 2007 at 11:40 pm
Simple and clean. Too bad I’m using MyAnimeList.
April 13th, 2007 at 11:58 pm
@DS: No, I don’t count how many times I’ve seen/rewatched a series. Never really thought to keep track of that. Just the fact if I’ve completed it, dropped, or put it on hiatus.

Sorry, this idea has already been done.

Thanks~

@Talendor: Actually, the MyAnimeList is actually a complicated version of AnimeSeen. AnimeSeen is a clean and lightweight. MyAnimeList seems a bit more complicated to me.
April 24th, 2007 at 8:49 pm
A bit more complicated? Did you even bother to try using it? How much easier could it get? You create an account (not through IRC like Animeseen, oh my god?). You’re AUTOMATICALLY logged in (NO e-mail registration). You’re then presented with options. “Add anime – View my list”. You click add anime and you type in shows you’ve seen. Complicated? It’s anything but complicated. Please offer proof when you bash a site.

I actually should have been specific. The design for MyAnimeList is a bit more cluttered and complicated. Also I didn’t really realize that AnimeSeen was so difficult to sign up with. I guess that is due to the fact its still in beta and you would expect some issues with it.
I will say one thing about MyAnimeList. It does include some of the social aspect that I thought AnimeSeen should seen. Also MyAnimeList is more a bit more developed than AnimeSeen.
Sorry, I really didn’t mean to step anyone’s toes but it was the view I had of MyAnimeList. You are correct I did jump the gun a bit in stating my opinion. I didn’t really try out MyAnimeList until after the fact. I was not trying to bash the site. Actually I’m not using AnimeSeen, I personally prefer to use what I’ve been using for a while to keep track of my anime.
